The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
