When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: "Ye appear to be uncommon folk." 62 They said, "In fact we have brought to you the matter which these people doubted." 63 We truly tell you that we have brought to you the Truth. 64 "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 He said, 'These are my guests; put me not to shame, 68 And guard against (the punishment of) Allah and do not put me to shame. 69 They said: forbade we not thee against the worlds? 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 By your life! In their drunkenness they were truly blind. 72 At sunrise a dreadful Shout seized them. 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 There are certainly signs in that for those who can learn a lesson -- 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 Verily there is a Sign in this for the believers. 77 And indeed the Dwellers of the Woods were unjust. 78 So we took vengeance on them; and lo! they both are on a high-road plain to see. 79
