Yet Aaron had aforetime said to them, 'My people, you have been tempted by this thing, no more; surety your Lord is the All-merciful; therefore follow me, and obey my commandment!' 90 They replied: 'We will not stop; we will cling to it until Moses returns to us.' 91 (Moses) said: "O Aaron! what kept thee back, when thou sawest them going wrong, 92 That thou followedst me not? Hast thou then disobeyed my order? 93 Aaron answered: "Son of my mother! Do not seize me with my beard, nor by (the hair of) my head. I feared that on returning you might say: 'You sowed discord among the Children of Israel, and did not pay heed to my words.'" 94 Moses said: "What, then, is your case, O Samiri?" 95 He said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me." 96 'Begone! Your lot in this life is to cry: "untouchable!' said he (Moses). 'An appointment awaits you that you cannot fail to keep. Look at your god which you clung to indeed we will burn it and scatter its ashes upon the sea' 97 Your Lord is the One who is the only God and He has the knowledge of all things. 98 This is how We relate the former tidings to you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him); and We have given you a Remembrance* from Ourselves. (*The Holy Qur’an.) 99 Whoever turns away from it will surely carry a burden on the Day of Judgement, 100 therein abiding forever; how evil upon the Day of Resurrection that burden for them! 101 The Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed. 102 Whispering to one another: "You have tarried but ten days." 103 We know best what they will say. The most perceptive of them will say, "You stayed only one day." 104
