[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This has been happening all along. 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
