S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Sad. By the Quran, full of admonition! 1 But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and Separatism. 2 How many a generation have We destroyed afore them, and they cried when there was not time of fleeing. 3 And they marvel that a warner from among themselves hath come unto them, and the disbelievers say: This is a wizard, a charlatan. 4 Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing." 5 The chiefs among them go about, exhorting: Go and be staunch to your gods! Lo! this is a thing designed. 6 We have heard nothing like this in the latest religion. This is only his own false invention. 7 “Is the Qur’an which is sent to him, among us?” In fact they are in a doubt concerning My Book; in fact, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Or, have they the treasuries of the Mercy of your Lord, the Almighty, the Giving? 9 Or [that] the dominion over the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? Why, then, let them try to ascend [to God-like power] by all [conceivable] means! 10 This is only a small army out of the several armies that will suffer defeat here. 11 The people of Noah, Ad and the dominating Pharaoh had rejected Our revelations. 12 So also did the people of Thamud, Lot, and the dwellers of the Forest. 13 Of all these there was not one who did not deny the messengers. So My retribution was justified. 14
