He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attended to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
