Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions ranged 15 and carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
