And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 and the fish swallowed him while he was blaming himself. 142 Had he not been one of those who glorify Allah, 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 or is it that We have created the angels female, and they [who believe them to be divine] have witnessed [that act of creation]? 150 It is only because of their false invention that they say, 151 "Allah has begotten children"? but they are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Or, do you have a clear authority? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment-Seat)! 158 God is too glorious to be described as they describe Him 159 except the servants of God, sincere and devoted. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 except him who shall roast in Hell. 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 And they surely were wont to say: 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” – 168 we would surely have been God's chosen servants," 169 Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know. 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 That they verily would be helped, 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 175 Do they really wish to hasten Our punishment? 176 When that chastisement will descend upon their courtyard, evil shall that Day be for those who had been warned. 177 So turn (O Muhammad SAW) away from them for a while, 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Exaltations be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above that they describe! 180 And peace be upon the Envoys; 181 and praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being. 182
