Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
