The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send unto all cities heralds 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know. 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 “And what did you dislike in us, except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Pour (bestow abundantly) patience on us, and bestow us death as Muslims.” 126
