The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 by the House inhabited 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 there is none to avert it. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
