Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; 2 when he called upon his Lord in low tones, saying, 3 he prayed: "O my Sustainer! Feeble have become my bones, and my head glistens with grey hair. But never yet, O my Lord, has my prayer unto Thee remained unanswered. 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." 6 “O Zakaria! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya (John) – before him, We have not created anyone of this name.” 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 "O John! Hold the Book with all your strength." We had bestowed wisdom upon him while he was still a child; 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
