Nay, and by the moon, 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 a warning to mortal man 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 So whosoever will (let him read it), and receive admonition (from it)! 55 And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive. 56
