The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
