The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
