۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 Their chiefs said, "Bring him before the eyes of the people and let them testify that he has spoken against the idols." 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
