۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. 34 For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), 43 on couches facing each other. 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes, 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 and then he looks and sees that [companion of his] in the midst of the blazing fire, 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 Are we then not to die 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 See how those who were warned met their end! 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
