The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour hath drawn nigh, and the moon hath been rent in sunder. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 abasing their eyes, they shall come forth from the tombs as if they were scattered grasshoppers, 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
