The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 facing one another. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
