The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 And have you understood what the nightly arriver is? 2 It is the star shining brightly. 3 There is not a soul but over it is a keeper. 4 Let the human being reflect that from what he has been created. 5 He is created of water pouring forth, 6 Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, 7 Surely, He is Able to bring him back, 8 On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. 9 Then will he have no might nor any helper. 10 By the heavens, ever-revolving, 11 by earth splitting with verdure, 12 surely it is a decisive word; 13 and is no idle tale. 14 They are planning a scheme, 15 And I secretly plan. 16 Therefore give them some respite - give them some time. 17
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
