He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 In honored books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
