The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
