Verily Jonah is one of the apostles. 139 when he fled like a runaway slave onto a laden ship. 140 Then lots were drawn and he became of those who were pushed into the sea. 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us), 143 He would certainly have tarried in its belly to the day when they are raised. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 and they believed in him: so We let them live in ease for a while. 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Or that have We created the angels as females, while they were present? 150 Oh, verily, it is out of their own [inclination to] falsehood that some people assert, 151 'God has begotten?' They are truly liars. 152 “Has he chosen daughters instead of sons?” 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or have you, perchance, a clear evidence [for your assertions]? 156 Produce, then, that divine writ of yours, if you are speaking the truth! 157 And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him). 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 cannot mislead anyone 162 except for he who shall roast in Hell. 163 [The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position. 164 And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks, 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 AND, INDEED, they [who deny the truth] have always been wont to say, 167 If we had the account of earlier people with us, 168 we would surely have been God's chosen servants," 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the apostles: 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 When that chastisement will descend upon their courtyard, evil shall that Day be for those who had been warned. 177 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from them, 178 and see; and they too shall soon see. 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 Peace be upon the Messengers 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
