The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] 2 when earth is stretched out 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 in obedience to the commands of its Lord which are incumbent on it, (the human being will receive due recompense for his deeds). 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 He shall call for perdition, 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]. 14 This is a fact. Their Lord is Well-Aware of (all that they do). 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And the night and that which it drives on, 17 And by oath of the moon when it is full. 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it). 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 except for those who believe and do good deeds. Theirs shall be an unending reward. 25
