Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 and couches raised high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
