A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 A Book revealed to you-- so let there be no straitness in your breast on account of it-- that you may warn thereby, and a reminder close to the believers. 2 Follow (O men!) the revelation given unto you from your Lord, and follow not, as friends or protectors, other than Him. Little it is ye remember of admonition. 3 And how many a [rebellious] community have We destroyed, with Our punishment coming upon it by night, or while they were resting at noontide! 4 Then naught was their cry when Our violence came upon them save that they said: verily we have been the wrong-doers. 5 We will question those to whom Our Message was sent, as We shall question the Messengers. 6 with full knowledge, We shall tell them what they did, for We have never been away from them. 7 The balance that day will be true (to nicety): those whose scale (of good) will be heavy, will prosper: 8 Those whose scale will be light, will be their souls in perdition, for that they wrongfully treated Our signs. 9 YEA, INDEED, [O men,] We have given you a [bountiful] place on earth, and appointed thereon means of livelihood for you: [yet] how seldom are you grateful! 10
