Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 Moses said: 'You throw.' So when they threw [their rods], they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
