And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
