Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-A’in-Sad. (* Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah and to whomever He reveals know their precise meanings.) 1 (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah). 2 When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 who will be my heir as well as an heir [to the dignity] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Sustainer, well-pleasing to Thee!" 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 He said: O my Lord! in what wise shall there be for me a boy, whereas my wife hath been barren, and surely have reached an age of extreme degree? 8 He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
