The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 then came down close 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. 25
