He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
