Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
