Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
