Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
