In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret, 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. 5 to be my heir and to be the heir [of the blessings] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, acceptable to you." 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 Peace be upon him on the day he was born and the day he dies, and on him the day when he is raised up alive. 15
