Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
