The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and all those on earth. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
