The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
