The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
