Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 When he left towards the laden ship. 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy; 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 He would have tarried in the belly thereof till the Day when they are raised. 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 and We caused to grow over him a tree of gourds. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 (Muhammad), ask them, "Do daughters belong to your Lord and sons to them? 149 Or that We created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)? 150 Behold, it is one of their fabrications that they say: 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement? 154 Do you not understand? 155 Or have you a clear authority? 156 Then bring your book, if you are truthful. 157 And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 "Had we received guidance from the people living before us, 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know. 170 And assuredly Our word hath already gone forth Our bondmen, the sent ones: 171 That undoubtedly, only they will be helped. 172 and that Our army will be triumphant. 173 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, 174 and watch them. They, too, will watch. 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 When it descends into their courtyard, it will be terrible for those who have already been warned. 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 And Peace on the messengers! 181 and praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being. 182
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
