The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
