Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 except the people of the right hand 39 in Gardens they will question 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 "What has caused you to enter Hell?" 42 They will say: we have not been of those who prayed. 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- 49 like startled wild donkeys 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
