The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 , A fitting reward. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
