AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 He abandoned his people 140 and cast lots, and was of the rebutted, 141 Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame. 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand or more people. 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Is it not a lie invented by them when they say: 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Or have you a clear authority? 156 Bring your Book, if you are truthful. 157 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]. 158 Purity is to Allah from the matters they fabricate. 159 Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin]. 160 Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship, 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 As for us, there is none but has an appointed station. 164 Verily we range ourselves in rows (as humble servants) 165 And we are those who sing hallelujas to Him." 166 They say, 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” – 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 But (now) they disbelieve in it, so they will come to know. 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 and see them; soon they shall see! 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 But then, once it alights upon them, hapless will be the awakening of those who were warned [to no avail]! 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 and watch. They, too, will watch. 179 Hallowed be thine Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they ascribe! 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 And all praise is to Allah, the Lord Of The Creation. 182
