He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe of God 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 olives, dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
