The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
