Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 which will smother the people. I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
