The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Burning the skins! 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
