He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
