Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 "My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity." 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor a true friend; 101 "So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!" 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
